                                                               NEWS…NEWS…NEWS…NEWS

  • “What a wonderful evening it was!!!” That was some of the comments that I overheard after last Saturdays’ 140th Concert and I have to agree that it was something “rather special” in our band’s history don’t you think? Whenever we face something as big as this I’m always reminded that it is bit like Christmas- preparations, frantic organising, tinged with that bit of excitement as we head for the big day, then glad when its’ all over! Then it’s time to reflect and time to relax for those working hard behind the scenes. I was really proud of the band, not only in its’ playing but how we all came together to make it special. I was pleased that the seating worked out well. It really seemed as though we were going to be at one point overfull, and I know Steve was going mad inside as to where we were going to seat 300, but just to explain about the tickets, my original order was for 250 tickets initially and then I had 50 more printed making 300, I thought we had sold 300 but on checking, the printers had only done 200 plus 50. When I told Steve, He said “thank goodness for that!” with a big sigh of relief no doubt! and didn’t our youth band do well?  Julie and Richard,  brilliant, keep up the hard work, your efforts are really showing.
  •                                                                                                        BBC Radio Lincolnshire
  • I heard from Helen Bell, our interviewer, that they repeated the interview on Saturday 15th together with the “correct” date for which they apologised, so George and Philip got a double airing. We can send for a copy of it, but I think Garry said that if anyone wants a copy he will email it to you, Thanks Garry!
    •                                                                                   Leeds Town Hall
  • This is the next item on the agenda of our celebrations. I think I can safely say we’re all looking forward to it, and it will a good social affair for us as we don’t get together much outside the bandroom. What are we playing I wonder? We’ll wait and see.

Kirton Brass Band kicked off the new year with a private concert in Gedney Church to celebrate the 100th birthday of Mr R Skinner, Gedney. The band played tunes of yesteryear as well as some modern offerings to family and friends of Mr Skinner who gathered for the occasion. The afternoon was a complete success and at times Mr Skinner was visibly moved.

Another successful "Last Night of the Proms" was held by Kirton Brass Band on Saturday night 10th Nov. Over 100 people packed into the Town Hall to one of the best ever performances by the band and thanks go to the appreciative audience whose enthusiasm for joining in was noted. They and the band enjoyed themselves immensley. Music of the soundtrack to Pirates of the Carribean went down well in particular, as well as all the band's repertiore. Special mention must go to the soloists. 14yr old Evan Peg played a tenor horn solo "IF", who proved what a talented player he is at such a young age. Derek Martin played bass trombone solo " Wanderin Star" from Paint you Wagon. The evening concluded with the traditional Fantasia of British Sea Songs and Land of Hope and Glory(Pomp and Circumsatnce) with much flag waving and hearty singing. Money raised from raffle tickets went towards pensioners Christmas Festivities.
The Band will be now concentrating on their Christmas programme. Look out for details of a Christmas Concert joined by The South Holland Singers on 14th December, in Kirton Parish Church.
On Rememberance Sunday, the band were present around the memorial as we remebered fallen comrades who gave their lives in the two Great Wars and recent worldwide events. Refreshments for the band were provided by our friends at The Peacock public house, for which we thank them for their hospitality.
The Landlord/Landlady of The Peacock are asking the villagers if they have any archive photographs of any events held at their premises over the years, whether parties, weddings, fund raising events etc. they would be pleased to hear from anyone who may have photos hidden away to please contact them
